Agents are required to register for the new system as of January 1.
Agents will now have to fill out forms that detail their age, occupation and citizenship status.
Agents who do not comply with the registration requirement will not be able to register until January 1, 2019.
The new system will only be available to employees of a licensed agency.
It is expected that some people may have difficulty registering.
Agents can register by visiting www.myeg.ca.
It will take between three and six weeks for the system to be fully implemented, and it will not cover every type of agency.
According to the minister of labour, the government has committed $500 million to help get the new rules in place.
“We’re excited about this program and the opportunities that it will bring,” said Chris Ballard, minister of employment, social assistance and family assistance.
