‘Worst-case scenario’ for Newcastle as new boss faces the prospect of relegation

It was a bizarre week for Newcastle United.

On Tuesday the club announced that their board would be making a bid for Newcastle City’s former owner, Mohamed Alhassan, in the hope of reviving the club.

On Thursday, the club’s chief executive Alan Pardew was asked about his team’s situation by Alan Jones, the former Newcastle United and England defender, and admitted that there was no imminent return to the Premier League.

Pardew also admitted that his squad had lost three players in the last 24 hours, with Newcastle losing striker Alex McLeish to Norwich City on Monday, winger Yoan Gouffran to Aston Villa on Tuesday, defender Connor Wickham to Sunderland on Wednesday and defender Ashley Williams to West Ham on Thursday.

Williams, who played with Pardews at Newcastle, also left the club after just one season.

Williams is now the second player to leave the club since the end of the 2013-14 season, joining defender Josh Vela, who moved to Tottenham.

Williams is a long-term target for Manchester City, while Pardiw has stated that Newcastle would be prepared to let a number of their stars leave this summer if a suitable deal was not agreed with Alhasan.

While Pardnwis stance seems to have been that Newcastle can’t go down this way, Newcastle City are not the only Premier League side in desperate need of a striker.

Leicester City have already been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, who could cost around £40m, while West Ham United have also been linked to a move.

But there is one player in particular that Newcastle could look to sell for big money this summer.

According to Sky Sports’ Darren Rovell, Newcastle could be in for a big-name striker this summer, with a big name being a big loss for Newcastle.

Rovell claims that there are three players who could be on the move at the end the season, and he says the two who Newcastle are most likely to sell are striker Idrissa Gueye and winger Yohan Cabaye.

The Dane’s contract expires in the summer of 2021, and Newcastle are reportedly interested in keeping him, while he has been linked closely with Arsenal.

However, the French winger has also attracted the attention of West Ham, with the Hammers also looking at Cabaye and are interested in Newcastle.

Gueye, who is out of contract at the beginning of the season and has been on the radar of other Premier League clubs, has not scored in nine Premier League appearances this season, having scored in just seven appearances in the 2016-17 season.

The 25-year-old was at the centre of a major controversy last season, when he admitted to biting the head of Manchester United’s Chris Smalling in a Champions League qualifier, but he was cleared of the charge by a panel.

He is now out of favour with Newcastle and has only managed six goals this season for the Magpies, scoring two goals in his last six games.

Guede is also a target of the West Ham board, with they also interested in signing the winger.

The Frenchman is contracted until 2021, but the Hamsters are thought to be prepared for the possibility of signing him, given that they are prepared to offer a significant fee for the player.
